We had a great time celebrating the 4th of July with Will. Burt didn't have to teach on Friday which was great. We spent most of the day just playing and having fun. It rained most of the morning and early afternoon, but cleared up in time for Burt to grill us some hamburgers for dinner. After dinner, we decided to head to campus for the festivities.
The college was having a kids' carnival and then setting off fireworks. It was really a celebration for the whole town, but of course we saw a lot of people that we knew from work. They had lots of fun activities for the kids. It was set up really nice for families. There was no admission fee and each child got five free tickets. They had several games for the kids to play and each game only cost one ticket. Of course, most of the games were targeted for kids a little older than Will, but he still seemed to have fun. He really enjoyed the duck pond and won a little cat that bends. He likes to chew on it! He also loved the sucker tree. He even won a box of crayons when he (well we) picked a winning sucker. After the games, we walked around some more and then got our free ice cream.
We hadn't planned on staying for the fireworks since they didn't start until 9:00, but Will was doing really well, so we decided to try it. We headed back to our van to wait for them to start. We had about fifteen minutes before they started, so we put down the back seat and let Will play in the back and have a snack. We weren't sure what he would think about the fireworks, but he seemed to really like them. I held him while we watched them and he would just look at them. He did not seem at all scared by the loud noise. A couple of times he said "ooh" when we were watching them. After the fireworks, we headed back home with a very sleepy boy!

Fun! Is that a patriotic slap bracelet on his ankle? I really hope it is, because that would be awesome!
Sorry to disappoint you, Amber, but it is not a slap bracelet. It does look like one, though. It was actually the band that they gave out to the kids to show that they had received their free tickets. We put it on his ankle so he wouldn't rip it off!
Deb got my niece (Mariana)a slap bracelet when they were here for a little surprise. We didn't realize what it was at first. When I figured it out, I was so excited. Mariana didn't think it was as cool as I did! :)
Oh, too bad. It's still cute, though! And what's wrong with Mariana? You have to school her in the ways of coolness. :)
That kid loves ducks--and that makes him even more AWESOME.
